Manali is a high-altitude Himalayan resort town in Himachal Pradesh, India, renowned as a premier destination for adventure, spirituality, and natural beauty. Situated at an elevation of 2,050 metres (6,726 ft) in the Beas River Valley, it serves as the gateway to the Lahaul and Spiti districts and the city of Leh.
The Hadimba Devi Temple is the most iconic cultural and spiritual landmark in Manali. Built in 1553 CE by Maharaja Bahadur Singh, it is a rare pagoda-style wooden structure dedicated to Hadimba Devi, a character from the epic Mahabharata who was the wife of Bhima and mother of the warrior Ghatotkacha.
The Club House is one of Manali’s oldest and most popular recreational hubs. Managed by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), it is a British-style architectural complex located on the banks of the Manalsu Nallah (a tributary of the Beas River) in Old Manali.
The Mall Road is the beating heart of Manali—a bustling, pedestrian-only boulevard where the town's social and commercial life converges. In February 2026, it serves as the ultimate winter evening retreat, glowing with golden lights against a snowy backdrop. It is a mix of high-end branded showrooms and traditional Tibetan stalls.
Manali is home to two primary Tibetan monasteries (Gompas) located right near the city center. They serve as essential spiritual hubs for the local Tibetan community and offer a peaceful refuge for travelers. The "Main Manali Gompa," this monastery was built in 1960 by Tibetan refugees. It is famous for its vibrant yellow pagoda-style roof and its historical significance.
Van Vihar is a peaceful municipal garden and nature park located right in the heart of Manali, adjacent to the Mall Road and the Beas River. It is famous for its towering deodar trees and a serene man-made lake.
